Who the Heck is Meg?
Hey there! I’m the author of How to Heal Your Nightmares, writer of dream interpretation column Dearest Waking Dreamer, creator of the now-archived podcast The Dream Axis, a dream interpreter and experienced out-of-body explorer, dream blogger, occasional book-binder, US Marine Corps veteran, amateur disc golfer, and self-described Lord of the Rings nerd (among many other things).
Dreams Born of Nightmares
I’ve always been a vivid dreamer but suffered two decades of recurring nightmares with frequent episodes of sleep paralysis before discovering the joy of dreams again. As I waded my way through the murky waters of those nightmares I discovered that they weren’t actually trying to make me suffer—they were showing me exactly what I needed to see in order to heal some deep, deep shit. I learned that our nightmares exist to help us change for the better.
After returning from a deployment to Afghanistan in 2015, I started recording, interpreting, and working with my nightmares, bringing them to therapy sessions, and openly talking about them with my friends and family. I EAS’d (ended my active service) from the Corps in 2016 and moved to Seattle, Washington where I worked as a Natural Resources Specialist at the Ballard Locks and then as a Senior Aide for Dash Point and Saltwater State Parks.
But as much as I loved those jobs, I was struggling with the knowledge of my past and eventually came face-to-face with the darkness that is suicidal ideation. Thankfully, I made it through that moment and came out the other side where I began re-evaluating everything.
I moved to Minnesota and started over. With a new crew, a new job, and a new outlook on life I began picking up the pieces and re-discovering joy. I met my now-husband, Brandon, fell in love with disc golf (I guess my husband too, lol love you boo!), and continued working with my nightmares.
Finally, in December 2021 I had my last sleep paralysis nightmare. I closed a major chapter on the darkness and fully stepped into a life that was truly mine. (This is what How to Heal Your Nightmares is all about!)
From Marine Corps Veteran to Dream Interpreter
I started getting spiritually-curious and in 2021 I joined Alea Lovely’s Mystery School where I began interpreting dreams for complete strangers just for fun. It didn’t take long before I received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback which encouraged me to turn dream interpretations into my full-time job.
I got a website, began interpreting online and at local art and spiritual fairs in-person around the Twin Cities, recorded a podcast, The Dream Axis, where I interpreted dreams from individuals all over the globe, and wrote my first book.
At one of those fairs I met a “magic baby” (for more details, read the Afterword of How to Heal Your Nightmares) and suddenly realized I wanted to be a mom. I published my book, put my services and fairs on hold, and started planning for a family!
But life isn’t always what we expect. 2025 was a roller coaster year of both new beginnings and deep loss. Our first pregnancy miscarried which plunged me into another deep re-working of my inner life. Then, almost immediately following, we got pregnant again and I navigated the complicated space between grief and joy. The summer weather helped us heal until fall rolled around and we lost our beloved dog, Daruk, to lymphoma.
It was one of the most difficult years I’ve ever lived and also one of the most wonderful.
December brought a low-key, cozy season of connection with our close friends and family before our son joined the world in January 2026 and our lives changed forever. 🤍
